A Year in Review: Barn Brides of 2019

Updated: Feb 14, 2023

Reflecting on our first year of business, our hearts are full of gratitude! Our clients are truly what have made this journey so special, and we wanted to reflect upon this first season of wedding celebrations with a little look back on our couples of 2019! These ten weddings made us appreciate how versatile our space truly is, and we’re happy to say that we’re still learning every step of the way. From soft, bohemian weddings to modern, elegant events, over the past few months, the Barn has transformed into a warm locale for community events big and small. Most of all, we’ve loved celebrating love this year, as our passion project has become a stepping stone in the journey to forever for these couples! Thank you for choosing the Barn at Aspen Acres!

1. Dan & Tia

The Barn’s very own founders were the first to tie the knot in August 2019! Dan and Tia’s wedding was abuzz with the laughter and excitement of family and friends, gathered in our South Dakota wedding venue for the first time. Among our favorite touches from the ceremony were the use of a symbolic aspen tree, as well as the use of dried aspen leaves as confetti after the couple was formally announced as husband and wife! With simple greenery, sparkling clean white dishes, and delicate accents of gold, the celebration of the Berens was truly the perfect way to start.

2. Chase & KayCee

This Montana-based couple was a blast to host and celebrate with! Their laid back style paired perfectly with brighter pops of floral, feathers, and antlers adorning the Barn’s large, rustic barnwood tables. One of our favorite features were the delicious charcuterie boards Chase and KayCee served their guests as an appetizer. The groom even hand-made the the display boards himself! From the guests to the families, when we think back on this wedding, there’s one thing we know for sure: love was in the air!

3. Joe & Cassie

Joe and Cassie’s August wedding was seriously everything that modern bohemian dreams are made of! Soft pinks and beiges with gold accents melded to create a light and airy atmosphere, and stunning floral arrangements gave the white barn a beautiful beachy vibe. We also loved the layout for this reception; with a long king’s table down the center of the banquet hall leaving room for a dance floor in the front. And dance they did! Finally, this bride and groom offered a variety of sweets to treat their guests!

Among the vendors were some of our Black Hills favorites: Sweet Fluff cotton candy and Leone’s Creamery ice cream! This pretty late-summer evening was certainly one to remember.

4. Brenton & Brooke

Brenton and Brooke’s wedding was a beautiful harmony of modern and classic glam! Brooke was a stunning bride, and the ladies in the bridal party artfully showcased that the hot new trend of black bridesmaids dress is seriously chic. This couple used the Barn’s fully-equipped warming kitchen to their full advantage, and served a delicious plated meal to their guests with the help of their caterer. For their formal reception, Brenton and Brooke chose a structured seating chart for their guests, with a jazz band during dinner and a DJ afterward. While this intimate event hosted only 125 guests, its setup demonstrated how efficiently different spaces can be used in the Barn for weddings and celebrations of all sizes! Overall, we loved the elegant style this couple brought to the venue!

5. John & Kaylee

From the custom-built arbor to the bridal bouquet, this fairytale day was truly a demonstration of two families joining together. Fun fact: John and Kaylee’s wedding is proof that you can cut costs in your wedding budget by having your grandma be your florist! Soft, beautiful roses and greenery were accented by little pops of burgundy in the arrangements- and some of these flowers were even grown in the Mother of the Bride’s garden! Team work made the dream work in this stunning wedding, and we can’t wait to see what this power couple accomplishes in the future!

P.S. If you’re an upcoming Barn bride still looking for an arbor, contact us today! After this ceremony, we were seriously so obsessed with this custom-built, look-a-like Barn arbor that we simply couldn’t part with it. It’s now available as an add-on rental option!

6. Jacob & Nicole

We’ll never forget how much fun we had celebrating this free-spirited couple!

Jacob and Nicole were actually one of our first couples ever to take the leap and book their wedding at the Barn- before it was even open! However, like many construction projects, our opening date got pushed back, and this kind couple was so flexible and understanding that they moved their wedding date as well. We’ll always be so grateful to them for believing in us from the very start! Nicole made a gorgeous bride, and we loved how she styled her naturally curly hair for their big day! Some of the unique parts of their wedding included featuring a Chevy Camaro and a Ford Mustang parked out front, and having Blue Spruce Coffee Truck come to serve their guests a warm beverage!

Thanks for sharing your light and joy at the Barn, Jacob & Nicole!

7. Ryan & Kaitlyn

This sweet couple had our first-ever indoor wedding at the Barn, and we loved every second of it! Embracing the first cold snap of the season, Ryan and Kaitlyn’s October wedding was a lovely combination of casual and elegant. So much love was shared during this magical day, from the touching family prayer during the ceremony to the delicious cupcakes and cake that the bride’s sister made for the reception! Wishing you all the best, Ryan and Kaitlyn!

Isn’t this featured photo of the Barn’s delicate crystal chandeliers and expansive windows absolutely jaw-dropping? We’re honestly still obsessed! This cowboy married his bride and they danced into their future together as the sun set behind Crow Peak. The most special part of this bohemian, country-chic styled wedding was the sentimental decorations and the way we could tell how much their families poured their hearts and souls into making it the best day ever for this sweet couple. Trust us- this wedding had some of the best “dad-moments” that made the whole crowd tear up! Congratulations Zach & Ericka!

9. Tristan & Brittany

Our largest wedding of the year award goes to: Tristan and Brittany! Their 450-guest reception fit comfortably into the Barn’s open, spacious layout, and Brittany’s large bridal party made full use of the large bridal loft and balcony overlooking the banquet hall. We fell in love with her simple, elegant dress and the colors they chose for their wedding, with accents of blue highlighted by beautiful jewel-toned florals done by Becoming Blooms.

Future brides: this is how dreamy winter weddings can be!

10. Devon & Madisyn

Our final wedding of 2019 was yet another example of how the Barn serves as a clean slate for personal styles to be expressed in special, memorable ways. This couple had such a joy and peace-filled evening at Aspen Acres that it still warms us just thinking about it! Plus, the sunset that slowly sank and painted the sky behind them during their ceremony couldn’t have been more artful if it had been planned. One of our favorite parts about our location just outside of Spearfish is being able to watch incredible sunsets over the hills each evening, and this is one we won’t quickly forget!
